OverviewChris Williams was the most unheralded of the offensive tackles at the end of the season, but everyone knows who he is now. He's a top prospect, but Vandy receives so little attention, despite playing in the SEC, that he's unknown to many outside the scouting world. He's well-known to the NFL, though, as he has the qualities to play the coveted LT position at the next level.
StrengthsWilliams has ideal size for the position. He is solidly built without the excessive belly fat prominent in many prospects his size/weight. Williams is very good technically, using his hands well to deliver an initial punch and redirect defenders. He uses his long arms to keep the speedy edge rushers under control. He has decent quickness off the snap and very good feet, sliding well laterally to get out to the edge rushers and to keep his feet in position to counter the bull rush. He gets to the second level smoothly and is always looking for the next block after completing his first one. He's is rarely knocked off balance. He's also had experience at the LG position, making him a versatile commodity. He's also managed to avoid injury thus far. His intelligence is a real asset too (reportedly had the highest score on the Wonderlic from the Combine).
WeaknessesDespite his size, he needs to add some bulk and strength, particularly in the lower body to become a better run blocker. He's a bit more of a finesse blocker, relying on technique instead of raw power. He doesn't play with great aggressiveness.
ProjectionBecause Williams is still a bit of a work in progress (needs to add strength and play with more fire), he's not mentioned among the elite (i.e., Jake Long) of this draft class, but he'll still go as early as the middle of the first round.
