Overview

Jarvis Moss has been through a lot. He was a highly decorated HS prospect who injured his pelvis. He then developed an undetected Staph infection in his pelvis which, at times, prevented him from even walking. After enrolling at Florida and seeing his weight dip from 240 down below 220, he was sidelined for good in 2004. Urban Meyer's training staff was finally able to detect the problem and Moss has been ascending the draft boards since then. He had a phenomenal junior (2006) season where he was unstoppable at times. After weighing his decisions, he decided to declare for the 2007 NFL Draft.

Strengths

Moss is a tremendous athlete who combines good height, long arms, and speed and quickness into one scary package. He gets off the snap very quickly and gets the offensive linemen struggling to catch up before they can get good position on him. Moss is able to get wide on linemen and also has a very good swim move to get inside. He is also able to juke the linemen using a variety of head and body fakes. He excels in pursuit along the line and is adept at locating the ball and stripping it from the ball-carrier (4 forced fumbles last fall). He doesn't take plays off and all indications are that he is a self-starter who responds well to coaching and learns quickly.

Weaknesses

Moss has the build of a basketball player and really lacks the upper body strength to take on linemen consistently. If he is engaged by a blocker, he is generally unable to shed the blocker and gets washed out of the play easily. Last spring during campus agility tests, he benched a max of 265, which is far too little for a defensive end. Many feel that he is better suited to move outside to a 3-4 OLB position because of his athleticism. His height and lack of attention to pad level have Moss playing too high too often and then he is easily knocked off balance and taken to the ground. He doesn't use his hands particulary well either. His injury history is troubling and teams will want to ensure that the staph infection and pelvic injury issues are behind him. He also was suspended for a violation of team rules earlier this season, although it is not known why that occurred.

Projection

I believe that Moss is best used as a 4-3 DE and will enter the league as an edge rusher and then can spend the time bulking up to be a complete DE. Moss will likely impress at the Combine and if he can do well on the bench reps, then he'll be a first round pick. If he appears to be more of a project than an immediate prospect, he could slip into the second round.

wimbley is a best, when cleveland improves the d-line and sures up the corners, his sacks will blow up even more than 10 as a rookie

Moss is one of the most overrated players in this draft. He's a long, good athlete, but he just doesn't seem like a football player to me. He lacks a sense of toughness and physicality. I just don't trust finesse defensive players because football is a violent game.

Agree with all previous statements; 265 lbs on the bench is scary though; thats light for any position

I saw this guy play in Denton at Billy Ryan high school, He's a lanky guy but he makes up for it in the speed category. He'll go in the 1st round for sure. Regardless of where he goes to... the QB better watchout...

This years Kameron Wimbley. Big, tall, fast and athletic. If he can add strength he'll be better than Wimbley.

Love Moss's Size at 6'6 but is kind of light at only 250, plays a lot like, and is in the mold of Jason Taylor. In the right System could be a great DE in the NFL or will have to move to LB. either way will make himself known.
