OverviewDarren McFadden is generally considered one of the top, if not the top, college football players in the nation. He's fallen just short of the Heisman for two straight years now and really put Arkansas football on the map again.
StrengthsMcFadden is an outstanding athlete who has been consistently productive in each of his three seasons and has improved each year. He has sprinter speed and won't get run down from behind once he hits the open field. His acceleration gets him through the hole quickly yet he's patient enough to wait for holes to develop. McFadden also displays surprising power and won't be brought down easily. He has shown a very effective stiff arm to keep would-be tacklers at bay. He has soft hands out of the backfield and is used quite effectively (albeit sparingly) as a receiving threat. McFadden has also spent a good deal of time taking snaps from center and will be a nice option threat in an NFL backfield. He's also a capable return man if needed.
WeaknessesMcFadden is a tall, slightly top-heavy back that runs with an upright style that opens himself up to more physical punishment than teams will like. He's never missed a game at Arkansas though. He might work best for an NFL team that splits carries amongst its backs. He's not often asked to block, so that's another skill he'll need to show he's able to do. He has a little red-flag incident where he went to kick someone during a scuffle and got the pavement instead, messing up his foot pretty good. He seems to have learned from that indiscretion though and shouldn't be a problem player. (*Update: 1/10/08 - McFadden was handcuffed by police outside a Little Rock piano bar after a ruckus erupted. Police say he was the only one handcuffed-to calm him down because he was agitated-but was released without any charges. His mother indicated that D-Mac's younger brother was jumped and D-Mac was just looking to defend him. I wonder why McFadden is taking his underage brother to a bar and risking this type of incident anyway. More to think about for an NFL team.)
ProjectionThere's no doubting McFadden's outstanding potential. I'd be a bit wary of drafting him with the intent of making him my feature/workhorse back (how's that working for Reggie Bush?). But, if used correctly, he'll make an immediate impact in the NFL. He's a real boom/bust type of player at the top of the draft. If used correctly he could be a vital piece of a championship puzzle. If used incorrectly, he could be the downfall of an entire scouting department. Don't be surprised to see McFadden waiting longer than he'd like in the Green Room at the 2008 NFL Draft.

Date/Time: 02/21/2008 - 11:20PM EST Predicted Round: Undrafted the more i see of Mcfadden the more i see bust in him.... Must go to a team that splits backs to be used most effective. He is almost certain to be a bust if he is asked to be the main back. User: thasavage1 Date/Time: 02/20/2008 - 1:56AM EST Predicted Round: Round 1 Nice back would be #1 in any other draft, but shouldn't drop out of top 3. BTW cogan while correcting rahul's grammar I'm sure you meant INPUT not IMPUT right??? User: cogan Date/Time: 01/15/2008 - 2:12PM EST Predicted Round: Round 1 Should go in the top 5 for sure. A true thoroughbred RB with size, speed, and vision. I doubt if the 'Boys use both picks to get him. They have more Defensive needs. (By the way, Rahul, if you want to give your imput, please learn how to write. You embarrass yourself.) User: khadeem09 Date/Time: 12/20/2007 - 12:20AM EST Predicted Round: Round 1 Darren McFadden is a great all purpose running back...He is a Adrian Peterson/Ladinal Tomilinson type running back....He is great speed and agility, while at the same time he has great power and vision User: romeoreds22000 Date/Time: 12/7/2007 - 8:36PM EST Predicted Round: Round 1 No Comments Submitted User: BennyBoi Date/Time: 11/25/2007 - 12:17AM EST Predicted Round: Undrafted No Comments Submitted User: baller04 Date/Time: 10/27/2007 - 10:09PM EDT Predicted Round: Round 1 D Mac is the best player in the nation hands down. I think the dallas cowboys will figure out a way to get Darren. Barber and Darren will be a great two back combination. That means julius jones is out the door. Picture it Big D in Big D. One more thing Jerry Jones is a Arkansan User: FatMike58 Date/Time: 10/26/2007 - 8:48PM EDT Predicted Round: Round 2 Avg at best. This guy will go Top 5 but Not #1 Overall for sure.
