OverviewEllis, a 3 year starter at NT for USC, is one of the top Dline prospects for this year's draft. Glenn Dorsey and Sedrick are so dominant, that they are in a class by themselves. Ellis has 3 years of starting for USC, facing some of the best olines in the country in the Pac-10. He was named an All American in 2006 and 2007. He was Pac-10 Defensive player of the year in 2007. Just a few of his many accolades in his career in Los Angeles.
StrengthsPure strength. Former USC center calls Ellis "man-strong". Sedrick had 34 reps of bench press at the combine, tops for all DT's. Ellis is so strong that he cannot easily be moved off the line. It usually takes 2 maybe even 3 defenders to even budge this giant of a man. In addition to great strength and size, Ellis also has great quickness and footwork and shows an array of nice moves to shed himself of blockers. He has come back from multiple cartilage problems in his knee, showing his incredible toughness. His 17.5 sacks and 28.5 career TFL are pretty astounding numbers for a nose tackle. At the next level, Ellis is big enough and strong enough to occupy multiple blockers, opening up lanes for speedy linebackers to make the tackle. He will be the culprit of a successful 3-4 defense at the next level.
WeaknessesDoesn't have overwhelming size for a nose tackle at only 6-1, 285. Definitely needs to bulk up more at the next level. Also, doesn't have the longest arms and therefore sometimes lacks leverage and length to shed blockers.
ProjectionEllis is projected to go in the top 10. However, in my opinion, he is nowhere near the level of play that Dorsey is. However, DT is probably the most underrated and one of the most important positions on a team(look a the Patriot's defensive success this year, and the Broncos lack thereof). Ellis is a solid pickup at around 10, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him be just an above average player at the next level.

Date/Time: 01/30/2008 - 2:05PM EST Predicted Round: Round 1 The top 5 teams eying Dorsey should trade down and get him. They are near equal in value and you can pick up some extra picks. They are virtually equal, Dorsey just has "Brand Appeal". User: cogan Date/Time: 01/30/2008 - 12:57PM EST Predicted Round: Round 1 Top 5 pick easily. He might have been 285 in High School, but PLEASE. I have watched both Dorsey & Ellis, and I believe Ellis to be the best of a very solid DT class. He was unstoppable throughout his college days, and showed just what a BEAST he is during practice & in the game at the Senior Bowl. O'linemen who are supposedly his peers were tossed around or sped by like they were high school players. Ellis had at least 2 sacks, a Safety, 1 FF, and 4-5 tackles against the best in college ball. This guy will be the next great NT in the NFL. Here's hoping the Cowboys get smart & find a way to use their two #1s to lasso this guy in. Ellis alone will put the Dallas "D" back to "Doomsday" status.
