OverviewJackson is a 4 year starter for the Trojans. Came on in 2004 as a raw redshirt freshman, but by his Junior year was one of the top rushing ends in the country. Returned for his senior year and formed a dynamic and dominant defensive front with NT Sedrick Ellis. Jackson has 52 starts under his belt, and was able to start for a championship caliber team for 4 years. He's a competitor. All Pac-10 first team in 2005, 2006, and 2007. 2nd team All American in 2007.
StrengthsJackson combines tremendous strength with incredible speed. One of the most naturally gifted ends to come out in a long time. Very quick first step off the edge and has a great spin-swim move to free himself of the offensive tackle. Absolutely relentless once in striking distance of the quarterback. Does not fall for pump fakes(like the rest of the Trojans in the Rose Bowl game against Texas a few years back), and is really good at hunting down QB's. Stayed healthy throughout his career at USC, and figures to do so in the NFL. Had a huge 3 sack game against ASU on Thanksgiving Day. Teammates also claim him as incredibly intelligent both on and off the field. Solid against the run, but by no means a run stuffer quite yet. Long arms makes him a very tough guy to block.
WeaknessesNot the best against the run. Struggles moving laterally against quick shifty runningbacks. A little small, but his frame should allow him to gain plenty of muscle. Not the quickest DE, and struggles at times in pursuit of scrambling quarterbacks.
ProjectionJackson is ranked #6 on our DE prospect rankings right now. He had a good but not great combine in which he tested well in bench press reps(finishing 2nd behind Vernon Gholston), but ran a somewhat disappointing 4.81 40 time. Still, he is a physical specimen and has all the physical attributes necessary to become a force in the NFL. As a bonus, he's a smart, very likeable guy(and in a looong NFL season, that becomes very important). Jackson was seen as the #2, maybe #3 DE, before having his stock slip some in the past month or so. He should go in the middle to late first round.

He is not a premier DE lacking ideal speed, but uses quickness well. Neutralized by double teams. Good enough to start and be a serviceable starter. User: TrojanJP Date/Time: 08/3/2007 - 11:45AM CDT Predicted Round: Round 2 Suffered from USC's 3-4 style defense last year, now that the Trojans return to a standard 4-3 style, his production should go up. He will benefit from having Sed Ellis next to him, and 10+ sacks for Jackson is very possible. Has good size at 6'5 275 and could be a top DE prospect in the draft next year.
