OverviewTwo year's ago Daymeion was second in interceptions in the Pac-10 with 5, trailing only Aaron Gipson's 7. Last year he was 3rd in the nation with 8, leading the Pac-10. He and fellow Cal CB Tim Mixon combined to form one of the top CB duos in the country two year's ago. Hughes was an All-American and All Pac-10 selection this year, also being named the Pac-10's defensive player of the year. The Ronnie Lott award winner, winning it in the award's inagural year. Senir Bowl invitee and will also be at the Combine.
StrengthsHughes has OK size at 5'11" for an NFL CB. Was 3rd in the nation in interceptions last year with 8, returning 2 of them for touchdowns. He was 2nd in the nation with 19 passes defensed. Hughes is great in zone coverage and is very aggressive--which led to many of his interceptions. His interceptions also tend to come at very good times, breaking games open. Hughes was as close to a shutdown zone corner as I have ever seen in college. Quarterbacks wanted nothing to do with him and usually ended up throwing to the other side of the field. Daymeion also can hit very well. He had some huge hits in Cal's 45-10 romping of Texas A&M in the Holiday Bowl last season. Daymeion is very polished, starting 28 games, receiving meaningful playing all 4 years of his college career.
WeaknessesHis 40 time of 4.65 at the combine dropped him an entire round. He also hasn't faced a top WR for a whole game, as Cal likes to rotate their CB's in this situation. He struggles in bump & run and man coverages. Will often be outmuscled and outleaped in jump ball situations.
ProjectionWhile his speed may not be spectacular, his coverage and playmaking ability are. He is very technically polished in zone schemes. A very good second-round selection for a team that plays a lot of zone coverages.

Has great ability to create turnovers, with 19 ints. in his last 36 games. Will attract coaches like new Cowboys' HC Wade Phillips, who likes to play an attacking 3-4. Phillips will want players who are willing to attack to create turnovers, and that's Hughes. User: sdempsey Date/Time: 02/10/2007 - 10:07PM CST Predicted Round: Round 1 Tough and hard hitter.
