OverviewMalcolm Kelly made the tough decision to leave Oklahoma and test the waters of the NFL Draft. It may turn out to be a good decision as Kelly might be one of the top 3 receivers selected and is assuredly a first round talent.
StrengthsKelly is a big, physical receiver. He's got enough speed for his size that, coupled with his quick release at the snap, make him difficult to cover. Kelly has outstanding ball skills and some of the strongest hands in the draft. He uses his body to his advantage, using it to shield the defender from the ball. Has the leaping ability (38" VJ) and athleticism to high-point the ball and make the difficult catch. Gets in and out of his cuts quickly, a rarity for a man his size. A very fluid runner with good ability to create yards after the catch.
WeaknessesWhile Kelly is a smooth route-runner, he's not as effective at selling his moves as he could be. At Oklahoma, he hasn't really needed to be. In the NFL he will. He's only an average blocker, which is disappointing considering his size and physicality.
ProjectionIf he runs even reasonably well at the Combine, he'll be one of the first receivers selected and could go as early as #11 overall to Buffalo, a team in dire need of a big physical receiver to complement Lee Evans and Roscoe Parrish.
