Overview

Mendenhall burst on to the scene in 2007 as a scoring machine and as the face of an up and coming team in Illinois. Will be a very sought after commodity with his ability to run, block, and catch. Only a junior, he made the decision to leave UI and enter the NFL Draft.

Strengths

Is a triple threat to run, block, or as a receiver out of the backfield. Possesses great NFL size. Plays faster in pads. Can handle an NFL load. Does not have a lot of tread on his tires and is just now realizing how good he can be. Has over-achieved with less talent on his team and with teams loading up the line to meet him. Timed and field speed are very good.

Weaknesses

Only has a year of starting experience. Does not always seem to run 100%. Has a good frame, but is not overly tough. Would rather bounce outside then hit the middle.

Projection

After starting off on fire in the 2007 season, Mendenhall will be one of the first backs off the board in the 2008 NFL Draft, most likely the 2nd. Looks like a top 15 pick.
