Aldo De La Garza was a first team all state offesive player out of New Braunfels, Texas (New Braunfels HS), where he was named his team's MVP his senior season. He received playing time early at Texas A&M, playing a backup role in all 12 games his freshman season. He became a starter his sophomore season, and started the next 27 games for the Aggies. In his senior season however, he lost his starting job after three games. His progression came off the tracks this past year, and he took a big step backwards across the board. His demotion was not due to any injury. Garza has been a durable player during his four seasons at A&M.
Aldo has great size for a guard. He has long arms, and utilizes his hands well to keep defenders off his body. He doesn't play as strong as his size would suggest, but he has a nasty streak and fights hard through the whistle. He doesn't have the speed to operate on the second level, and often times gets lost lunging at faster targets.
2006 Draft Outlook
Garza's draftablity took a major hit with his demotion from his starting spot this past year. It's puzzling why he regressed as much as he did, because I expected him to preform at a mid-round pick level. He now looks to be possibly a seventh rounder, more likely a undrafted free agent.
