Admittedly, Albert Toeaina had a lot to prove in 2005. He was woefully inconsistent and failed to live up to the lofty expectations placed upon him as a juco transfer last season and really didn't meet the expectations this season either. Toeaina's size, strength, and athleticism -- not to mention his success at the City College of San Francisco in 2003 -- had Volunteer coaches expecting a lot more than the inconsistency and poor technique he showed. Toeaina was a five-star prospect and ranked as the nation's third best junior college offensive lineman by TheInsiders.com following the 2003 season.
Toeaina has tremendous size and long arms to help keep those smaller, pesky speed rushers from getting to the quarterback. For a man his size, Toeaina is also fairly athletic. He doesn't move his feet particularly well, though. He's relatively slow and doesn't exhibit a lot of quickness. Toeaina's real weakness is a lack of understanding of how to play the position and how to utilize correct technique. Toeaina also is not a disciplined player. He'll hurt his team at inopportune times with costly penalties, often of the unsportsmanlike variety. He has always gotten by on size, strength, and athleticism alone, but in the tough SEC, that was not enough. Hopefully Toeaina received some good instruction in the week of practices leading up to the Senior Bowl and showed coaches that he can improve.
Toeaina will be drafted sometime on the second day of the 2006 NFL Draft, however he had all appearances of being an early day one pick when he first signed with Tennessee.
