CDS Profile
Replaced in 2005 as the starter after an injury plagued junior campaign, A.J. had to fight for time this past season behind spectacular little runningback, Garrett Wolf. Harris has elite size and speed, but is more of a straight ahead power runner. Harris doesn't get into the end zone enough for a big back. For example, Wolf and Harris each played in 6 games in 2004, but Harris only managed 4 touchdowns compared to Wolf's 21. He has only had 3 games in his entire career where he rushed for over 100 yards. On a positive note, his first two years he played in Michael Turner's shadow. When he suffered the injury in week four of the 2004 season he was the #1 back in rushing yards in the MAC at the time. Harris and Wolf made a nice one-two punch in 2005 when both were healthy, with Harris being used more in short yardage situations before a late shoulder injury sidelined him again. A.J. is not a real quick starter, but he runs with great body lean. He has a real nice jump step to line up with the open holes as they develop and change. After being hurt so much, he will have to have a great post-season work-out to receive a lofty placement in the 2006 NFL Draft. He is one of those hidden diamonds who could wind up as a better pro than callege player. Carries a 7th-UDFA grade at the close of the '05 season. Has truly elite speed and shows a willingness to block. Tends to run too upright, which may account for some of his injury problems to date. Hands are a bit of a question mark, though he did have 11 catches for 87 yards in limited playing time in '05. Will remind many people of a poor man's John Stephens.
