CDS Profile
As a freshman played 3 positions KR/WR/RB
Strengths: Has a strudy build, has very good hands plays fast, very quick, an exceptional receiver out of the backfield. Is still learning to play the position.
Very raw as a runner, doesn't have great size and is not a good blocker. Does not read blocks well. Birmingham played running back, wide receiver and kickoff returner for the majority of his first three seasons at Arkansas, seeing action in all 11 games in 2001, all 14 games in 2002 and all 13 games in 2003. He played the majority of 2002 and 2003 at WR but switched back to RB fulltime in 2003 because of injury and remained there in 2004, when he finished with 456 yards and three touchdowns on 111 carries. Birmingham also had 17 receptions for 175 yards, 10 KOR for 217 yards, and 17 PR for 115 yards as a senior in 2004. Birmingham was essentially a utility player in college, as he played running back and wide receiver on offense and also handled the majority of the return duties throughout his career. Birmingham is down graded becouse he lacks the size of a typical every-down running back in the NFL and he doesn't have top speed. I'm not making a comparison but his measurables are nearly identical to Emmitt Smith.
Will be better than Kevin Faulk has more upside than many realize at the pro level.
