CDS Profile
Underclassmen like Darryl will play a huge part in the 2005 NFL draft. Blackstock became a star in his freshman season as he led the nation's freshmen with 10 sacks and 14 tackles for loss. He finished the season with 107 tackles and set an ACC record for most sacks by a freshman. As a true freshman from Newport News, Virginia, Rivals.com and CollegeFootballnews.com named him national defensive rookie of the year. He has the frame to get even bigger. In 2003 he was used more in a traditional linebackers role and he didn’t rush the passer as much, but he still had a productive year. He recorded 50 solo tackles and 35 assists with a marvelous 16 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. His 16 tackles for a loss led the Cavs. Subsequently, Blackstock was named 2003 ACC-All Conference (honorable mention). He is a supreme pass rushing linebacker and perfect for a 34 defense. He is very young and a converted defensive end so he needs to improve on play recognition and in pass coverage. **
Enrolled at Fork Union Military Academy for 1 year after high school and registered 22 sacks after registering 29 his last year of high school. In 2004, he was considered one of the best pass rushing linebackers in the entire NCAA, ranking #1 in the ACC in sacks with 10 solo. He is destined to play on Sundays.Had a great workout at the NFL Combine, while his 40 speed wasn't that impressive he had a 39 inch Vertical Jump, a 10-6 inch Broad Jump and a real fast 7.09 second 3-cone run time.

Blackstock, an early entrant into the draft, started all but one game during his three-year career for the Cavaliers and finished with 27 career sacks, the second-highest total in school history. His 11 sacks in 2004 were the most in the nation by a linebacker and earned him second-team All-ACC honors.
Those pass-rush skills have grabbed the attention of pro personnel and could make Blackstock a first-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

But since his freshman year, when he led all college rookies with 10 sacks and was named the National Defensive Freshman of the Year by CollegeFootballNews.com and Rivals.com, Blackstock has worked hard to turn himself into a more complete player, concentrating on his run defense and pass coverage.
