CDS Profile
One of the great enigmas of the draft. A two sport standout with an 89-MPH fast ball for J.T. Curtis HS in New Orleans. Red-shirted in 2000, scout team member in 2001 who was elevated to the varsity due to two injuries above him on the depthchart. Saw action in 9 games in '01, starting 5 and completing 102 of 196 for 1,329 yards with a remarkable 14/4 TD/Int. ratio for one so young. Became the Tigers full-time signal caller in 2002 amassing 2,820 passing yards on 235 of 435, 23/18. Broke the record books for all the major passing categories at Memphis last year. His career totals are already among the league leaders in Conference USA history before entering his senior year this fall. While his production has been fine, he does make poor choices on occasion. Will force the ball way too often. Passing efficiency is only in the middle of the pack in the conference because of the number of picks he has delivered up (44) over the past three seasons. Has had some incredible single-game performances but still has much to prove. A good leader, vocal and confident, but needs some work on planting and delivering more consistent, easier-to-catch balls. Will rifle the throw when he needs to show more touch.
A streaky passer who can look like Joe Namath for stretches and like a backup at others. A bit cocky without the full rights to be.
Good size, strong arm (can throw the ball 73-75 yards.) Danny's leadership skills and productivity will very likely get him drafted. But, he has had a great RB in the same backfield and did not have to (or was not allowed to) put up the kind of numbers in 2004 that he did earlier in his career.
The type of developmental prospect who should catch on to an NFL roster but may need a couple of years in Europe or on a practice squad before facing NFL secondaries. Plenty of tools to work with but still projects as a very late pick or as an RFA at this time.
