CDS Profile
In 2003:
One of six finalists for the Ted Hendricks Award (top defensive end in college football) ... consensus All-Big 12 selection ... entered the season with three career sacks, but had a team-leading 10 (-65) during the year, including three against Oklahoma State (highest total in series history) ... the 10 sacks rank No. 5 for a season at OU ... led the team in tackles for loss with 17 (-93) ... No. 3 on the team with 17 quarterback hurries ... missed the Colorado game due to injury ... second team Academic All-Big 12
In 2004:
17 TFLs for the second year and a row with almost identical tackle totals to 2003. Was a finalist for the Hendricks Award and earned All-Big 12 first team honors and All-American recognition as well. Was the leader of the Sooners defense who started the national championship game with a sack before disappearing along with the rest of the Sooners defense in the shellacking by USC.
Dan has an outstanding motor and a knack for the big play. He is relentless and sells out to the QB. He is tall and very disruptive in the passing game. When he doesn't get to the QB he often changes the flight of the ball ot bats it down at the line of scrimmage. He can drop into coverage and can certainly be a 4-down end at the next level. He knows how to keep the opponents off his legs and uses his hands well. On the negative side, he is a bit thin for the position and may get shoved around by the massive NFL OT's he will be facing next year. He is not a totally clean character individual and is not real fluid guy. He plays a bit stiff and is a little straight-linish. Still, he has the package to work with and should be a late-first or early-second round draft pick who will be among the top 6 DEs taken.
2 CENTS WORTH- Another player who came in at one position(all-state tight-end), and will make a NFL career in a different position. Missed the 2001 season battling depression but came back strong and has made a full recovery. Look for Dan Cody to be a solid NFL contributor early in his pro career, and with a little added bulk to be a solid 4-down 4-3 end at the next level for a long time.
