Chris Missed the 2003 season with an unusual problem known as Parsonage Turner Syndrome (a viral infection in his brachial plexus that caused numbness and pain). He first complained of the problem during a scrimmage on August 15 and was diagnosed that same day, therefore he earned a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA and will return to the Pack in 2004. He was among the top offensive tackles in the nation heading into the season according to The Sporting News’ preseason issue, Athlon listed him as a preseason third-team All-American. In 2002 he was the top performer on the Pack’s offensive line for the second year, he tallied an incredible team-high 151 knockdown blocks for the season, setting a school record. A co-winner of the Jim Ritcher Award, given to the Pack’s Most Valuable Offensive Lineman and an Academic All-ACC performer for 2002, he posted 3.25 GPA for the fall semester. A second-team All-ACC choice for 2002, he was a fourth-team Sporting News All-American. In 2001 he was an honorable mention All-ACC choice and won the Pack's Jim Ritcher Award for the Most Valuable Offensive Lineman and earned the top-blocking grade on the offensive line in almost every game in 2001. He is extremely strong and he tied for the seventh-best bench press mark (410 lbs.) on the team. He looks to be back close to his old form in 2004, he is starting again and playing very well. With continued improvement in his health and performance, his draft stock is at an elite level again. However, will his previous illness scare off some NFL team?
