CDS Profile
Boomer's name says it all. He is a deadly tackler who hits like a ton of bricks. An amazingly productive terror on the interior of the Redbirds defense who averaged over 13 tackles per game in 2003, and amassed the 2nd highest tackle total of any IAA defensive player last year.
Boomer has near proto-typical size for the position, is very strong (455 max bench), possesses incredible speed (he may turn out to be the fastest LB in the draft) and is incredibly light on his feet for a man of his dimensions. His outstanding play forced opposing offenses to alter their gameplans week after week because they knew #46 was always lurking to take out their running game and to strike fear in their running backs. Boomer was a finalist for the Div IAA Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2003, and will secure a mid-round draft position for certain with a similar campaign in 2004.
Not only is Boomer a great athlete, but he is a very well-spoken, likeable, coachable, team-oriented guy who is an absolute workout phenom. Works harder than the next two guys around him all the time. He possesses a great motor and natural feel for the game. Boomer's only weakness may be a lack of ideal height to be much of a factor in pass coverage, but he certainly has the wheels to run with anyone. Boomer was practically un-recruited coming out of college and has a very blue-collar attitude that speaks well of the best pro prospect in the Gateway Conference. Boomer levelled off some during the 2004 season after a phenomenal 2003 campaign, and his stock is down entering the 2004 post-season. He worked out fairly well at the combine, but had a slight turf injury part-way through the movement drills.
