Entering 2003 (as a junior) he had 20 career catches for 240 yards and four scores in his first two seasons. He had a touchdown reception in each of the last two Clemson bowl games and one of every five of his receptions has gone for a score. He has had nine starts in his 25 consecutive games played and had been Clemson’s top pass catcher from the tight end position over his two first years. As a freshman in 2001 he was named third-team Freshman All-American according to The Sporting News. Clemson didn’t throw to their tight ends much last year (2003) and he only caught 3 passes for 51 yards and 1 touchdown. Nonetheless, Ben has the tools to be a fine NFL prospect. He is an excellent blocker and is very quick in and out of his cuts. He has soft hands and can win most jump balls. He needs to continue to get stronger but he is an intriguing mid to late round NFL draft prospect.
