CDS Profile
Bergen is easily the best small-school TE in the 2005 draft. At 6’5, 250, he’s got NFL size for a TE. He has also displayed good hands and the ability to run deep routes because of his speed. Bergen led Lehigh in receiving in 2003 with 70 catches for 840 yards, and a team-high 6 touchdown receptions as a junior. (2004 stats below) Bergen received 1-AA All-American honors after helping Lehigh to an 8-3 record in both his junior and senior year. While he isn’t dominating, Bergen is a dependable run-blocker, but his receiving skills are what make him a legitimate pro prospect. In one game during his junior year against Georgetown, Bergen put up school-record setting numbers with 14 catches, 156 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Bergen is one of the best 1-AA prospects in the 2005 draft, and with the emergence of the TE position in the NFL, he may hear his name called on day one of the draft. However, Bergen is probably a 4th-6th round pick, and may be a steal, because he does still have some upside. At the combine, he impressed many scouts, and looked like one of the best TE prospects who worked out. However, top TE's such as Miami's Kevin Everett and Virginia's Heath Miller did not work out.
