CDS Profile
Aaron is the most accurate passer in the NCAA right now, sporting an impressive 70+% completion% the past two years. He is technically sound and has a great, solid release. He is the starting QB for the California Golden Bears who nearly-squeaked into the BCS after a great 2004 season. Aaron has carried his team to win after win this season. He has incredible accuracy and times his passes almost perfectly. For only a 2nd year starter, I’m very impressed with the way this kid commands control of not only his offense, but the entire team. He’s a true leader, and shows it week-in and week-out. **
Scouting Report:*
Pro: Unreal accuracy, the kid almost never over/under throws his receivers. He has enough power to get the ball to the guy 25 yards down field, but enough touch to dump the ball out to his RB on the screen. He’s a take-control type of QB who makes decisions on the fly. He seems to check down just fine, and has no trouble finding the open man. Is well known for his meticulous style of passing, and can drive one 85 yards in two in a half minutes if you give him the opportunity. So far in his starting career, he has looked nothing shy of a top 5 pick. Just another reason that the PAC-10 has all the best QB’s.**
Con: Tends to stare down his man on timing routes. Doesn’t have the game experience of someone like Kyle Orton or Andrew Walter. Most NFL Ball clubs like to be able to stick the kid in and let him learn on the run. That probably isn’t going to be the case for Aaron as he is still a little rough around the edges, and will need some professional training. **
Summary: *
In my mind, Aaron Rodgers IS NOT just the Jeff Tedford "project" that so many are whining about. He will prove to better than Boller and Smith, without a doubt. Were he just 2 inches taller he would be the consensus best QB in this draft. Rogers has all the intangibles except for size and experience. However with his accuracy and arm strength, he could be a truly great passer for many years to come. Probably the number one pick in the 2005 Draft, and if SF stays put, he certainly OUGHT to be. **
